This site was created with the only purpose to enable people with interest in the postage stamps of Cyprus of the Victorian era to share information on the subject via a common platform.
Cyprus' postal history dates back to 1353 from the Lousinian era. The various conquerors of the island left their mark on its postal history. These where the Venetians, the Ottomans and the British. The latter came to Cyprus in 1878 and until the 1st of April 1880, British stamps were used on the Island. On that date, the first issue of stamps with the word "CYPRUS" was placed in circulation. This was the Provisional Overprinted Issue. Four more issues followed in the Victorian era. This period is the most fascinating one in Cypriot philately, as there is a wide range of errors and varieties. This era has proven to be a huge field to understand and exploit. Furthermore, there seems to be a promising possibility of new research as new discoveries are still being made.
