The fact that these three high values of the set were prepared and printed before the other values of the set, is no coincidence at all. It should be noted that the 9, 18 and 45 piastres denominations were not present in the previous issue, Die II. The need for their use on parcels probably necessitated their early production. These three values were produced on 14 October 1894.
Three hand painted essays (country and value tablets) for the 9, 18 and 45 piastres
1894 duty plate die proofs, 9 PIASTRES, 18 PIASTRES AND 45 PIASTRES in black on white glazed card and reduced to approximately 25x20mm, affixed to a piece of card cut from the De La Rue proof books endorsed “May 9, 60 leads from each duty”, with “June 25 94” written across the three proofs in red ink. These were the only three values to be issued in 1894.
