Usage of the 1 piastre stamp. No varieties have been reported for this stamp apart from the Detatched triangle variety
The half and one piastre stamps on a local cover postmarked Lefkoniko, August 15, 1888 to Larnaca on a pre-registered postal stationery cover, paying the two piastre registration fee. The local rate was half piastre thus the stamps paid the treble weight for inland mail at the time. The letter arrived at Larnaca on the 16th via Nicosia. Both towns marked the cover on the back to show its route.
The one piastre stamp on a pre-registered cover paying the double weight inland rate. The stamp being cancelled with the barrel “974” Kyrenia stamp and as usual the type II date stamp of Kyrenia can be seen below, showing the posting date as May 4th, 1884. The usual red oval registration stamp can be seen of the same date. The cover arrived at Limassol on the same date after travelling via Nicosia and Larnaca were it received the appropriate intermediary stamps.
