30 Paras stamp - The damaged "US" variety
The damaged “US” is a constant flaw that occurs at row 5, column 5 of both panes. It shows a straightened bottom at both the letters “U” & “S” of “CYPRUS” as illustrated above on the photograph next to the block and the cover below bearing the variety.
The half piastre along with two 30 paras stamps for a total rate of 2 piastres on a cover paying the foreign letter rate, postmarked Famagusta, September 15th, 1891 with Washington DC in the USA as the final destination. A further Larnaca intermediary postmark on the back of the same date and three arrival postmarks of the USA on the back. Two being from New York October 5th, 1891 with a “Paid” indicator and a further one of Washington, the final destination of October 6th, 1891. Furthermore, the left 30 paras stamp shows the damaged US variety.
