Positional Study of the 2½ d stamp of the Provisional Overprinted Issue of 1880
The overprinting process of the whole provisional issue, provided an abundance of varieties and errors for the collectors. The 2½ d stamp, was overprinted in two operations one for the upper and one for the lower panes (see diagram to the left). Thus each position on the upper pane has a corresponding position on the lower one.
A number of the 96 "CYPRUS" subjects that were used, had some significant difference between them. The purpose of this study is to expose these constant differences at the 96 different positions of the pane.
Not all positions show significant or any varieties for that matter. However, an image from each position will be displayed below and as new information becomes available this will be displayed.
Plate breaks and other flaws, that are not constant, have also been detected. These errors that appear from time to time, will also be displayed. To view these please press the button below.
